by Rosalie Neilson
As in the First Edition of The Twenty-Four Interlacements of Edo Yatsu Gumi, each 2-color braid is numbered from 1 to 24, indicating its order in the binary numbering system. In the Second Edition, the braids are also labeled by the number of elements for Color A and Color B which will facilitate the braiding process when making samplers. For example, one can readily find the label “4 A and 4 B“, and discover that there are eleven designs possible. Also, the formerly blue and black braids have been colored orange and black making the designs of these four braids more obvious. There are also several suggestions on how to apply the 8-element layouts of Edo Yatsu to 16-element Naiki Gumi, a more complex braid using the same movements as Edo Yatsu. Rosalie even lists some of her favorite layout combinations to try.
The book, based on a model of a Japanese folded page book, has 48 folded pages, and measures 4-1/4" wide by 6-3/4" tall. The artwork on the cover is representative of the stitched-and-silk binding of Japanese books. Published in USA
