Large 100-gram tama are designed for braiders who prefer the capacity of a larger bobbin while maintaining the 100-gram working weight. They are especially well suited for thick yarns, ribbons, long lengths of thread, and projects requiring greater thread capacity.
Our Large Tama are approximately 25% larger than our Standard Tama while maintaining the same weight. Based on the shape of traditional Japanese tama, they are crafted from hard maple, polished to a smooth finish, lightly waxed, and securely sealed at both ends.
In Japan, where braids are traditionally dense and firm, 100-gram tama are commonly used on the marudai. We recommend them for the ayatakedai, and they can also be used on the takadai and for many kakudai braids.
