In Japan, where braids are traditionally dense and firm, 100-gram tama are commonly used on the marudai. They are also our recommended weight for the ayatakedai and can be used on the takadai.
Our tama are based on the shape of traditional Japanese tama. They hold a generous amount of thread and are shaped so they don't easily catch on one another. Made from hard maple, they are polished to a fine finish, sealed at both ends, and lightly coated with wax.
Choose tama weight according to the braid, number of ends, and thread or yarn being used. For comparison, we generally recommend 85-gram tama for the takadai, while 100-gram tama are recommended for the ayatakedai.
