Nine-pin koma can be used with both the Standard and Extended Takadai to hold the threads during the braiding process. With the Extended Takadai, the additional koma capacity allows braids using more tama for larger and more complex designs.

During braiding, the koma hold the threads until they are cast through the shed and transferred to a koma positioned near the braider. When the koma at the far end of the Takadai become empty, they are moved to the groove at the front of the Takadai, closest to the braider. As the next tama is cast through the shed, the threads are placed onto these koma and braiding continues.

Koma are made from the same hard maple used for all BraidersHand equipment.
