Braids of Takadai and Karakumidai, by Hiroko Ojima and Mutsuko Okamoto
This inspirational book features a beautiful collection of color samples for takadai and karakumidai braids, along with a selection of disk and plate braids. While the descriptive text is written in Japanese, the braid names are provided in Romanized Japanese. Modern translation tools, such as Google Translate, can assist readers in understanding the accompanying text and making full use of the book's inspirational content.
There are 21 pick-up braids. Some lacy "Summer" braids look like they are made on the takadai, but perhaps could be made with free end braiding. Some of these are made with non-traditional threads.
The only instruction are three drafts for pick-up braids depicting Japanese characters Raku (enjoy), Emi or Warau (smile), Yume (dream), Furusato (home), and Sors (sky). There are three pages of samples designed by Makiko Tada made on the disk and plate braids. The karakumi braids featured are wide braids, narrow, and round. There are three pages of lacy, "snowflake" braids made on the karakumidai. There are also photos of beaded braids and braided jewelry.
