Published to accompany Makiko Tada's 2021 exhibition in Japan celebrating fifty years of braiding, this beautifully illustrated catalog showcases her remarkable contributions to the art of kumihimo.
The first section features historical braids from the Andes and Andean braids recreated by Makiko on the Marudai,Takadai, and Ayatakedai. The second section focuses on kumihimo, highlighting Makiko's reconstructions of ancient braids, traditional braids, and innovative new braids created on the Disk and Plate. The final section contains reference material.
Although written in Japanese, this book is a valuable addition to any braider's library. The large, inspiring photographs make it worthwhile even for those who do not read Japanese, and modern translation apps, such as Google Translate, can help readers understand much of the accompanying text. The book also includes instructions for one of Makiko's newer braids, Tsuno-Kaku-Yatsu-Se 2 (Horn Square Yatsu-Se 2).
