Makiko Tada presents a wide range of traditional and innovative braids for the Kumihimo Disk and Plate. She designed the original Kumihimo Disk and Plate produced by the Hamanaka Company in Japan, and many of the flat braids may also be made on the Octo Plate.
The book includes instructions for 21 Disk braids, including round and square braids, braids worked with a core, traditional designs, and several inventive core-braid variations. Among these is a design in which the core remains hidden in the center of the braid, then reappears on the outside before disappearing again, along with several looped zigzag core braids.
Fifteen Plate braids are also included, ranging from traditional flat braids to Makiko’s innovative zigzag, flat-circle, and square-spiral designs. These braids are especially well suited to necklaces and flowers, and the book includes eight projects.
