Equipment

BraidersHand equipment is built in our workshop in Oregon, USA. We use hard maple because it is strong, holds up well to regular use, and has a fine grain that lets us make smooth surfaces where threads move across the wood.

Maple also turns well for tama. We like the way the wood looks with Jim’s hand-rubbed shellac finish on our equipment, and we especially enjoy the feel of wooden tama in the hand and the musical sound they make as we braid. For the tools we make, maple has proven to be the right choice.

There is a waiting list. Currently, it is approximately six months (possibly sooner) for our large equipment: takadai, ayatakedai, kakudai, karakumidai, and core stand.

The wait time is approximately two weeks for marudai or tama.
